In 2023, when the Novi Sad Fair celebrates its century of existence, the book fair will be held from March 7 to 13. The event will bring together exhibitors from the field of literature, media and publishers from Serbia and the region, and publishers from works in the languages ​​of national communities... Visitors to the Book Fair in Novi Sad can expect premier editions, numerous promotions, attractive programs, gift games for visitors, exhibitions, festivals and significant discounts. Contact with the business audience is also unavoidable.

In the same period, the 27th international art exhibition ART EXPO is held, as well as the 18th international education fair PUTOKAZI, which on March 9 and 10 promotes the profiles of educational institutions in the country and abroad.

THE BOOK FAIR IN 2022

Concerning the number of exhibitors, the Book Fair has remained at the same level as in 2020, but everyone who has participated in this year's event has agreed that the attendance has been much higher and that the sale has exceeded all expectations. With the comment that this term in March suits them, many exhibitors have confirmed their arrival at the Fair that will be held next year.

The cooperation with the Foundation "Novi Sad - European Capital of Culture" has certainly contributed to the abundance of programmes that have been organised as part of the Book Fair. The "Master" Hall, the Aula, and the Hall 1 of the Novi Sad Fair have become a unique space transformed into a multimedia pavilion of literature and art, and the programme that has been prepared in cooperation with the Foundation has brought new excitement to visitors.

In the organisation of the Novi Sad Fair and the European Capital of Culture, the Fair has been opened by Matija Bećković to whom the Exhibition "Matija" has been devoted, and Rumena Bužarovska, Milena Marković, Ante Tomić, Miljenko Jergović, Damir Karakaš, Natali Skovronek, Darko Cvijetić, Dejan Aleksić and others have been presented to visitors. All guest appearances attracted an extremely large number of visitors to whom, after the presentation, the authors signed their favourite works, mostly purchased at the Fair.

During eight days of events, within the "Day of Laza Kostić", it has been talked about Laza Kostić as a dramatis personae, the Edition of the First Book of "Matica Srpska", young writers, bookshops as meeting places, Novi Sad alternative, Novi Sad literary fiction, poetics of Laza Kostić, important anniversaries, Novi Sad as the capital of poetry, publications in languages ​​of national minorities, etc. Numerous publishing houses have been promoted, and programmes have been organised by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, Novi Sad - the European Capital of Culture, the Banat Cultural Centre, many publishers, etc.

The Days of Libraries and Librarians have also been organised and combined professional and scientific aspects of topics that are important for culture, education and society as a whole, as well as the Days of the Russian Culture.

This year, the Book Fair in Novi Sad has been marked by numerous discounts - up to 80 percent, as well as by special actions prepared by exhibitors, not only for 8^th March, International Women's Day.

"Laza Kostić" Award

This year, two "Laza Kostić” Awards have been given - to Jovica Aćin, for the stories “Spa” published in the edition of Agora in Zrenjanin, and to Zoran Đerić for the anthology “Poems of Extended Duration” published by the Cultural Centre of Vojvodina “Miloš Crnjanski”.

The Award for the best book in the field of children’s literature has been given to Vesna Aleksić for “The Long Cat’s Summer” published by the Creative Centre in Belgrade, while the Award for the Publishing Enterprise of the Year has been given to the Novi Sad Publishing House “Prometej” and to the Library of the City of Belgrade for the book “The Origin of European Languages”.

Special awards of the Book Fair have been given to  "Akademska Knjiga" for "The Transformation of the World" and to the publisher "Futura Publikacije", Edition Neusatz, for the monograph "The River: A Different Danube Anthology". The jury for awards has been composed of: Franja Petrinović - Chairperson and Members of the Jury: Goran Ibrajter and Vladimir Gvozden.

Zaharije Orfelin

The artistic and graphic appearance of the book, the creative and artistic impression, the artistic and graphic equipment of the book, and the level of the craft and printing appearance of the book have been evaluated. Based on reviewed books, the Jury has decided to award several prizes.

The first prize is awarded to "Divan", by Khwaja Shamsuddin Muhammad Hafiz Shirazi, published by the Cultural Centre of Iran.

There are two winners of the second prize: "100 Faces of Chairs" by Jasminka Petrović, published by the Creative Centre, which thematically brings together illustrations of our prominent illustrators: Ivica Stevanović, Ana Petrović, Nikola Vitković, Dragana Radanović, Marica Kicušić, Igor Kekeljević, Manja Ćirić, Aleksandar Zolotić, Boris Kuzmanović, Dobrosav Boba Živković, Jelena Vasiljević, Milica Radenković Smiljanić, Maja Veselinović, Sonja Paunović Varga, Vana Kosturanov, Luka Tilinger, Marija Jevtić, Dušan Pavlić, Maša Avramović, Aleksa Jovanović, Gradimir Smuđa and Milenko Stevanović. The second winner is “The Book of Eibon”, by Clark Ashton Smith, published by the publishing house “Orfelin” with ingenious illustrations by Ivica Stevanović.

The third prize is awarded to the book “Verse Guidelines for Healthy Growing Up”, by Vesna Fekete, published by the Media Team Portal with realistic illustrations by Goran Jevtić.

The Jury has been composed of: Marija Ristić, the Chairperson and Members:  Mirko Dimić and Dragan Kojić.

In cooperation with the exhibitors, the Novi Sad Fair has organised the Prize Game for visitors in which about 400 books have been given in packages, and books have also been given to female visitors of the event on 8^th March. SYSTEM, PUBLISHING AND BOOKSHOP CENTRE “SOLARIS”, ODYSSEY PUBLISHING AGENCY, BUKINISTA, FILM CENTRE OF SERBIA, LAGUNA, AND CULTURAL CENTRE OF THE EMBASSY OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN IN BELGRADE. Coupons with the names of lucky winners have been drawn every day, and this has usually been done by special guests of the Book Fair.

Visitors had their first encounter with Novi Sad through the book in the Aula at the multimedia exhibition, which represented the central event of the programme “Migrations of Souls”. During the event, there have been professional guided tours through the exhibition. The elements of the exhibition include the synergy of analogue and digital media. In the centre of the Exhibition, there has been a large mixed-media table around which it is possible to have several dozens of people at the same time that are let into the labyrinth of the city of books. The exhibition has been accompanied by an attractively illustrated monograph on the history of books in Novi Sad.

In the Hall 1 of the Novi Sad Fair, there have been concerts, performances and plays. Miyavi, Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra, Kaori Ito and Etnoforija, Chalaban Band, Bilja Krstić and Bistrik have performed there. The plays “Fugitives” and “We Have All Come from Somewhere and Some Have Come Somewhat Earlier” have been shown. At the same place, until Sunday, 13^th March, the carnival of ritual processions, two concerts - Müller & Makaroff (Gotan Project) present - Antropoceno! and Original Enigma Voices + Camerata Novi Sad have been planned.

FAIRS DEDICATED TO LITERATURE, ART, AND EDUCATION IN 2022

The Book Fair, the Exhibition of Art “Art Expo”. and the Fair of Education “Guidelines” have been seen by 35,000 visitors. There have been 180 exhibitors from seven countries - Serbia, Republic of Srpska, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Canada, and Iran. More than 150 programmes (50% more than in 2020) have been organised and several dozens of authors have been presented. Several anniversaries have been held, current topics have been discussed, several thematic exhibitions have been prepared, as well as exhibitions at the exhibitors' stands and more than 500 educational profiles have been promoted. And, for the first time, all state colleges and universities from Vojvodina participated.    

It has also been talked about the continuation of education abroad. Tens of thousands of titles have been sold. During eight days, thematic exhibitions and many artists have turned the Aula into a gallery. The Novi Sad Fair has awarded about 400 titles to visitors in the Prize Game. The Radio and Television of Vojvodina have been informing the audience about events at the Fair in half-hour chronicles during the eight days.

For all events, from the 3^rd to the 13^th of March, the Novi Sad Fair has been assisted by partners and friends. The importance of holding the Book Fair, the Exhibition of Art, and the Fair of Education has been recognised not only by the  Foundation “Novi Sad - European Capital of Culture”, but also by the:
