Today at the National Livestock Exhibition, held traditionally within the scope of the International Agricultural Fair, the General Manager of the Novi Sad Fair, Slobodan Cvetković, MSc and the president of an NGO providing support to agricultural production “AGROPROFIT”, Čedomir Keco, have signed a protocol on cooperation, aiming to develop and enhance cattle breeding.
Reminding everyone that the slogan of the Novi Sad Fair is “The Place to Gain Advantage”, Cvetković estimated that it was completely logical for the Fair to support such initiatives.
- The “Agrofit” association has attracted many livestock breeders to the 89th International Agricultural Fair. Unlike dairy farming, fattened livestock breeding has been expanding, partly due to the changes to our diet, said Cvetković,
He added that he expected the Ministry of Agriculture, as the patron of the National Livestock Exhibition, to allocate more money for increased expenses related to organizing this event and that the protocol on cooperation with “Agrofit” would prove its value in the years to come.
Congratulating the Novi Sad Fair on the fact that it has been strictly following the European standards regarding livestock exhibitions since 2012, Keco said that such exhibitions created opportunities for the number of fattened livestock heads to increase from 12,000 to as much as 40,000.
- Besides its counterpart in Paris, the fair in Novi Sad is the only event that features top-quality head of fattened livestock at one place for more than five days. The buyers’ demands have changed globally. There is an increase in demand for top-quality beef, while the number of fattened livestock in Europe is decreasing. If we continue developing our fattened livestock breeding at this pace, we will soon become of the most developed countries in this part of the world, Keco said.
Livestock exchange
The ceremony of signing the protocol between the Novi Sad Fair and “Agroprofit” saw another initiative as well. Namely, the idea is for Novi Sad and the Novi Sad Fair to become the center of livestock exchange, which would use the stables at the fairground throughout the year, thus significantly improving livestock trading to the benefit of breeders.
